Tea con leche

So anyway, I have managed to introduce the benefits of proper English tea into Instituto Hemingway. To mark Maria's final half an hour learning Spanish in Bilbao I took over from Taryn the Teach and proceeded to explain, with the aid of a diagram, the process of making English tea and the key concepts and issues involved. You can see a photo of this diagram below and it is also available in PDF format for download here. get_adobe_reader.gif

tea-diagram-small.jpgThe main points I made were the requirement for a proper mug instead of a silly little coffee cup, the need for the water to be boiling when poured onto the proper tea bag (I prefer PG Tips but they are difficult to get out here so make do with Twinings), the need for a proper brewing time, the effect on this brewing time on the end product and of course the need for proper fresh milk, not UHT junk, and the relationship between the amount of milk used and the critical importance on the colour of the tea as an indicator of its strength and of course taste.

I was very surprised and impressed when Taryn the Teach made me a perfect cup of tea at her first attempt. This is not to say that she is not a very competent person, but i know of many British people who are incapable of making a decent cup of tea after a life time of practice.  Pity she keeps on breaking the photocopier.
